The story behind Kiboko Lodge
Watoto Foundation
The Kiboko Lodge is part of the Watoto Foundation, founded by Noud and Truus van Hout. The foundation has been giving street children in Tanzania a future since 2003. The Watoto Foundation gives these students a chance to build a prosperous future. After graduating, they receive training in the hospitality industry and others go to work in agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, metalworking or furniture making. In a country with an unemployment rate of 50-60%, this is a unique opportunity. The boys who, after six months of intensive training and an external internship, would like to work in the tourism sector, can start working at Kiboko Lodge. Here they can put their knowledge into practice and gain valuable experience for a successful career at other safari lodges.
''What great days! We've been through so much it feels like we've been here for 2 weeks. The visit to the drop-in center made a deep impression. We'd love to do the riverwalk with the boys again!"
